2020 Annual Fundraiser Event

We’re excited to share that Morgan Academy’s 2020 Annual Fund Live Auction will be held on Sunday, February 23 from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. and hosted at Brix 27, at 131 North Queen Street, Martinsburg, WV 25401.

Please come out, support the important objectives of the Annual Fund, and have a wonderful, festive time!

The MA Annual Fund bridges the gap between tuition income and MA’s total operating expenses. Financial aid scholarships, support for key educational enrichment programs for students and for physical plant necessities, as well as funds to expand our new, Shepherd University-based high school are all bolstered by the Annual Fund. The Fund is key to ensuring the long-term, institutional health of the school, its measured growth, sufficient support of necessary human resources, and the integrity of our educational mission for all students.

Your presence at the Live Auction, whether you decide to bid or not, is deeply valued! We just want our community to be there. If you are able and interested in backing the event further, please check out the information on Individual and Corporate Sponsorship.

Wrestling with a difficult decision? Struggling to resolve a sticky problem? Pondering a new path in life? A session with a professional coach can help you achieve clarity, deepen understanding, see new possibilities and focus energy toward appropriate action.

Jeff Feldman has been a professional coach since 1995. In his 25 years of coaching, Jeff has partnered with organizational leaders, business owners, workers in career transition, and anyone who needs a nudge on a goal, who is stuck on a decision, who is faced with a challenge, who is contemplating a promising opportunity. Through the use of powerful questions and deep listening, Jeff offers those he coaches clarity, understanding, perspective, and a drive to action. He firmly believes that his coaching partners are creative, resourceful, and fully capable. He knows the answers they seek are locked away inside themselves, and as their coach, Jeff supports them in discovering the keys to unlock those answers and unleash their potential.

In support of Morgan Academy’s 2020 Annual Fund, Jeff is offering an hour-long coaching session to be conducted in-person or by phone. The winner of this auction item may use this session themselves or gift it to someone else, with the session being scheduled at a mutually-agreed upon date and time. All coaching conversations are fully confidential.

If you are seeking clarity, resolution, perspective, and/or a commitment to action, a coaching interaction can place you on the right path. Jeff would look forward to partnering with you!

A big thank you goes to Fine Artist Eugene B. Smith of Winchester, VA for his generous donation of an original piece of art “Dolly Sods”.

A largely self-taught artist, Eugene was exposed to the Freer Gallery at a young age. This inspired his interest in Asian artwork, and he held a one-man exhibition in Okayama, Japan in 1997. Beyond that, Eugene has traveled throughout the United States to a variety of art shows and his collection reflects that. Images from Maine to Florida add to the variety of his work. Of course, Eugene has always said that living in the Shenandoah Valley means that he is never short of inspiration. His ability to capture the landscapes and architecture of the area has made him a staple of the community.

Several of Eugene’s prints have historical significance in Winchester, VA & surrounding counties. He likes to photograph the area as well as the main subject to get a feel for the history of the spot. Quite often he will go back to the chosen site at different times of the day to record where the shadows fall, which give his paintings that unique Eugene B. Smith look. His interest in the history of our area compel him to research each site before he paints: to absorb the history of it and perhaps to impart that history through his brush into the painting.

I encourage you to see this history through Eugene’s eyes: Glen Burnie Springhouse, Full Moon, Signal Knob, Historic Shepherdstown, Poor House, Rose Hill and Piedmont Station in Delaplane VA.

A big thank you goes to Fine Artist Kathy Daywalt for her generous donation of an original piece of art.

Kathy Daywalt is an award winning and prolific working artist with more than 40 years of successful experience in a variety of media. Her works have been included in numerous juried exhibitions and one-person shows. These works are in private collections from New York to California. In 2012 Daywalt began to revisit her original art interest – watercolor. She has been studying the effects of the medium on Yupo, polypropylene plastic, originally used for permanent outdoor signs. Her interest in figures and beautifully patterned compositions is evident in these new works. More importantly, her long experience with linocut printmaking has carried over to this new endeavor as she employs artist-made linocut stamps as well as found objects to create her richly textured, patterned paintings.

In 2014, Kathy worked with the Linda Jones Enterprises in celebration of the 75th Anniversary Edition of the digitally re-mastered and 3-D version of Warner Brothers “The Wizard of Oz”. A selection of her paintings was featured at the premier of the film at TCL Chinese Theater (formerly Grauman’s Chinese) and traveled to the three Chuck Jones Galleries as part of the celebration.
